The Pond
|
| The pond is one of two aquatic habitats here at
Boxerwood,
located slightly uphill from the
wetlands.
Many years ago, Dr. Munger dug out the area and built a dam.
Rainwater collected and filled the pond. He put in beautiful
Japanese fish, koi, but
snapping turtles soon took care of them! |
|
| A view of the pond... although depending on when you come, it may
be full, or it could be almost
dry!
The pond is fed by rainwater only ... no springs here!

The pond is a great place to spot birds, frogs and turtles. We often do a comparison of the wildlife seen here versus that
seen in the wetlands. Animal life includes Eastern painted turtles,
green frogs, snapping turtles, red-spotted newts and water-walking bugs.
Seeing all these creatures in action is hard work, though --- you have to be really
quiet! |
