FREE SURFACE WETLAND

In this wetland, water is at or above the level of the gravel.  Since it has been exposed to the UV Light, there is no further danger of contamination.  This wetland can function like a pond.  The plants use even more of the remaining nutrients.  Water is used in photosynthesis and transpired into the air.  Frogs, fish, newts, and other aquatic life forms can flourish here.  A self-sustaining pond ecosystem will probably develop over time.

Water leaves this wetland for three possible destinations.

1.  The fish pond

2.  Being used to water other plants inside the greenhouse or

3.  Discharged into the environment at a Rain Garden just outside.
