Boxerwood at twilight
Day-time animals are retiring
but animals of the night are just waking up.
Pam Newitt, a visiting naturalist from Yardley, Pennsylvania,
and founder of
"Nature Inside Out," led families on guided walks through Boxerwood's woodland trails. Newitt discussed some of the adaptations that
nocturnal
animals have but diurnal animals lack, adaptations that make living in the
darkness possible and, in some cases, necessary. She also talked
about
crepuscular animals, such as deer, that are active before dawn or
after dusk.
Walks sponsored by Boxerwood Education Association and by
Boxerwood's Dale Waller Early Childhood in Nature Program.
Newitt also led one-day morning workshop attended by local
preschool teachers.
