Winter Bird Watching
A Workshop for Teachers of PreK-Grade 1
Saturday, February 2
 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Bird Walk-and-Talk - with Leigh Ann Beavers, local artist and field ornithologist

Leigh Ann Beavers teaches in the Art Department at Washington and Lee University. Birds are the subject of many of her own prints. She shares a passion for birds with her husband, ornithologist Paul Cabe. Together they have worked on a number of field-related bird studies. Leigh Ann will take us on a walk along the wooded paths at Boxerwood and talk about the birds that you and your students are likely to see and hear this winter at feeders or near the school yard.

Make-and-Take Project

Assemble a bird-watching station for your classroom window ( includes feeder, log book, identification materials, and lesson plans)

Boxerwood educators have collected and produced classroom materials for a preschool/primary unit on birds. You’ll spend the second half of the workshop creating components for a bird-watching station and assembling materials to teach about nests, beaks and feathers.
