Spring is on the Move
Creative Movement and Puppetry
Teachers - levels Pre-K to Grade 1
March 15, 2008
Presented by Stephanie Hodde,
local arts
educator with a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in
developing arts and literacy practices with teachers and children, and
sharing the natural world with children.

This
workshop integrated movement and puppetry as creative methods for
introducing the natural world to young children. Stephanie discussed how motion in learning engages children mentally,
emotionally and physically as they become conscious and curious
about the world. She introduced a variety of theatrical tools,
including creative movement, inventive storytelling with music, and
found-object puppetry. |

Focusing
on seasonal topics, such as the life cycles of amphibians and the
travel habits of birds returning in spring, workshop participants
learned to craft puppets and lead movement and puppetry
activities in- and out-of-doors. They took back to school with
them sample puppets, songs, activities, and a list of picture books
to support spring topics. |
